as a video editor the idea of a "movie" where the camera could, at any point, be pointed in the opposite direction of the action makes me want to slap someone.

Apple’s Vision Pro leader, Dan Riccio, is retiring

Main Post: Apple’s Vision Pro leader, Dan Riccio, is retiring

Top Comment:

After John Ternus became SVP of Hardware Engineering, Dan Riccio became the project’s hardware leader because they wanted to make sure it got off the ground and they needed an experienced person to help finish the project. Now that it has launched, he’s going to retire. All of that was reported on awhile ago.

It doesn’t mean anything good, bad, or otherwise, and I really wish him well. He helped make a lot of great products. I am sure he instilled Apple’s culture into the new employees on that team.

How shitty is your eyesight?

Main Post: How shitty is your eyesight?

Top Comment: I have posterior vitreous detachment on my right eye. It felt like something slid in front of my eye and blurred my vision which turned out to be pretty damn accurate. He checked both eyes and told me to use eyedrops three times a day on both of them.

Eyesight keeps getting worse at 24

Main Post:

Just had an eye exam today and my prescription has worsened by about -1 each eye in just a year. I'm at -8.75 and 8.25 currently. I've been told that eyes should stabilize around your 20s and progress rather slowly, if at all. As -1 is not an insignificant increase, I'm just worried that my eyes will keep getting worse like this. But other than my prescription, there werent really any issues with my eyes. Anyone in a similar situation?

Top Comment:

Yes it happens to young adults. Mine have increased by 0.5 and 0.75 in one year at 28.
Findings From the Raine Study
Based on the data collected at the 20- (baseline) and 28-year Raine Study Gen2 follow-ups, the prevalence of myopia and high myopia increased from 25.8 to 33.2%. While the majority (52.2%) of participants had a stable refraction in both eyes over the 8 years, about one-third of participants had a myopic shift in at least one eye.
Across all participants, SphE progression, axial elongation, and lens thickening were also observed over the 8 years although corneal curvature did not change over time. Based on these findings, it appears that myopia progression in young adults has a similar mechanism to that in children, i.e., driven by axial elongation. This suggests that childhood risk factors of myopia, such as decreased time spent outdoors, may also have a myopigenic role during young adulthood.

There is 1 case of rapid progression in the study (~5D over 8 years). The only year he spent most of his time outdoors, his myopia didn’t increase at all.
